We were asked by the client to update some of the views within their staffing application.
Due to the nature of the system, the staffing application was very plain looking with the focus being the ability to staff projects. The client asked us to improve the staffing application by making it feel more customer facing. To accomplish this task it meant that my team and I needed to think about the user experience and ways to improve the overall look and feel of the application. This idea kick started our redesign of the whole application so it would have a uniform look and feel to it.
The idea was to make the dashboard as clean and minimal as possible so users could better focus on the information they needed with staffing projects.
We started by focusing on the resources and the opportunities available. Since the goal is to match people with cases, we knew we needed to bring in the human element so users could better connect with the resources they are trying to staff. Instead of having just the name of the person, we decided it would make more sense to add the picture of the person so the user can see who they are adding to a case. We did a similar concept for the formation of teams so users can see who all is on a team rather than just seeing a list of names.
Upon updating these 2 pieces, we then turned our focus to updating the case cards where these resource cards could be placed within. The earlier design was very cramped with a small colored line on the left side to indicate what stage the case was at. The goal of the new design was to improve readability, allow plenty of space for resources, and a clear indication of what stage a case was at.

Initially these two views were very plain and told you nothing about the resource or the case. To help bring both views to life we looked at ways to bring some life to the views, especially since the client wanted a more customer facing feel. After some conversations with the client and understanding what exactly they were looking for, we explored the idea of using geometric backgrounds to add some color. We then worked on updating the layout of the information in the headers so that the information was easy to read for users. We took some time focusing on the informational hierarchy to figure out how to best group the data.
The end result are the two views below. Both views have received incredibly high feedback from users after they were implemented and released for use by users.
